About MusicTech.blog
What We're About
There's no shortage of music tech content on the internet. What there is a shortage of is content written by people who genuinely use this stuff — not just to fill a page, but because they care about music and the technology that enables it. That's the gap we set out to fill.
Our editorial focus is practical over theoretical, opinionated over wishy-washy, and always honest about trade-offs. We don't recommend gear we wouldn't use ourselves. We don't write about techniques we haven't tested. And we don't pad articles to hit a word count — we write what's needed to actually answer the question.
Who We Are
MusicTech.blog is written and maintained by working musicians, producers, and audio engineers based in British Columbia, Canada. Between us we have decades of hands-on experience across home and professional studio environments — recording, mixing, mastering, synthesis, sound design, and live performance. We've been using DAWs since before most current producers were born. We own and use the gear we write about. We know what it's like to be a beginner who doesn't know where to start, and we know what it's like to hit the ceiling of a home studio setup and need to level up.
We operate as a publication rather than attach individual bylines to every piece. This is a deliberate editorial choice — it keeps the focus on the content rather than personalities, and means our recommendations reflect the considered view of everyone who contributes, not a single person's opinion on any given day.
Our Editorial Standards
Every article on MusicTech.blog is researched, written, and reviewed before publication. For gear reviews and buying guides, we draw on direct hands-on experience wherever possible — testing products in real studio environments, not just reading spec sheets. Where we haven't personally used something, we say so clearly and draw on documented specifications, verified community experience, and professional audio engineering reference sources.
We update articles when information changes: when products are discontinued, when a new version substantially changes our recommendation, or when reader feedback identifies something we got wrong. Music technology moves fast. We try to keep pace with it.
Revenue & Independence
MusicTech.blog is supported by advertising through the Google AdSense program. Some articles may also contain affiliate links — where we link to a product, we may earn a small commission if you purchase through that link, at no additional cost to you.
Our editorial decisions are made independently of our revenue relationships. Advertisers and affiliate partnerships have no influence over which products we recommend, how we rate them, or what we write. A product is not better because it pays us more — and a product we genuinely recommend doesn't pay us anything for that recommendation.
Based In British Columbia, Canada
We're an independent publication based in British Columbia, Canada. Our pricing references are typically in USD — the global standard for music technology — and our recommendations are based on products available through major North American retailers. Where pricing or availability differs significantly for international readers, we try to note it.
